Valve Has Balls, Play With Them - 11/22/08
By now, this story should be familiar to those of you that have been playing Left 4 Dead: your team just survived some impossible situation with multiple boss infected and hundreds of the horde and you're now limping, low on health and out of ammo towards the safe room. You're still a significant distance from safety and some idiot on your team leans towards his microphone and says "HEY WE MADE IT!!".
NOOOO!
The Director sits in his tower and laughs, pressing the Butt Rape - No Lube button and you are now faced with some combination of Tank/Witch/Triple Hunters/Boomer/Smoke/Panic event. Awesome.
Seriously though, don't say anything until we're in the safe room and the door is closed. The Director is a cruel, cruel thing.
Valve has balls. If you haven't seen it yet, on the third map of Death Toll (The Church), written on the wall of the church are death notices of the Left 4 Dead developers. The death notices mostly say October 2009. That just strikes me as a terrible idea - if there is a Director in real life, we all hope he doesn't have the same sense of humor as the one you guys created for Left 4 Dead!
As part of a New Xbox Experience celebration, at 9:00PM EST tonight (November 22nd) you have the chance to play with Left 4 Dead developers on Xbox Live. All you have to do is send game invites to the L4D dev gamertags and cross your fingers. Just more evidence of Valve favoring Xbox 360 players over PC players!
Wired posted their review of Left 4 Dead, giving it a 9 out of 10.
If you enjoy playing first-person shooters with a team of friends or even complete strangers, Left 4 Dead offers an unparalleled social experience. It can be frustrating at times when the team's actions aren't synced, or strategies continually falter, but a bit of practice and, more importantly, communication will transform this zombie massacre into one of the most exciting and addictive gaming experiences ever. And once community members have the tools they need to make their tinkering easier, new layers of creativity and wonder will undoubtedly embellish an already impressive package.
The guys behind ubercharged.net, an entertaining TF2 blog, have started up boomercharged.net, looking to carry the same thing over to Left 4 Dead.
If you want to watch some chick play the Left 4 Dead demo, Sadie's Gaming Infection 41 is a review of the L4D demo.
