L4D Dedicated Server File Treasures - 11/5/08

Valve has released a pre-load for the Left 4 Dead dedicated server and we found some interesting files within. The first is the usual "buy the game plz" video after you're done with any game demo, see below:

The second video is actually the background video for when you're in the main menu of the PC version of Left 4 Dead. No sound is included:

The demo maps are the Apartment and the Subway of No Mercy.

In the scenes folder there exist different folders for each of the Survivors and a final one for the NPCs. Each folder contains .vcd files for each individual voice recording for that character. For example, Bill's folder (namvet) has thanks01.vcd, thanks02.vcd all the way to thanks11.vcd.. cough01, cough02, coverme01 - coverme08, deathscream01-deathscream08, finaleahead01-finaleahead04, etc. Bill's folder has 1,045 files, Zoey has 1,368, Francis has 1,239, Louis has 1,007, and the NPCs (finale radio voices and others) folder has 182 files. They weren't lying when they said over 1,000 lines each!

The other thing we found were map overview pictures like the one of the first map of Blood Harvest below.

Interestingly enough it only contained overviews for the Blood Harvest and Death Toll maps. If you don't wish to get anything spoiled, don't click! Links open up 1024x1024 images.

Awesome! I'm sure people will be able to find even more interesting things such as a strange "splitscreen_config.txt" file in the PC version! Split-screen a possibility on the PC version?! Rumor time. If you do find something, post on our our forums!
